Importing an OPML File

An OPML file helps you move your followed podcasts between different podcast apps without needing to refollow each podcast individually in the new app. This article will discuss the following:

• How to generate an OPML file using other apps
• The different ways you can import an OPML file to Pocket Casts

This section discusses how you can import an OPML file you have already saved from another app so you can enjoy your favorite podcasts on Pocket Casts.

OPML import is only available in the following Pocket Casts apps:

• Android mobile app
• iOS mobile app
• Web app

Importing an OPML through the Mac or Windows desktop app is not yet supported. Please use the web app instead.

To import an OPML file using the Pocket Casts iOS app, please follow these steps:

1. Locate the OPML file in the Files app.
2. Long press on the file.
3. Tap the Share icon.
4. Select Pocket Casts.

Alternatively you can email the OPML file to yourself, then long press on the email attachment and select Open with Pocket Casts.

To import an OPML file using the Pocket Casts Android app, please follow these steps:

1. Tap the Profile tab.
2. Tap the settings cog.
3. Select Import & Export OPML.
4. Tap Select file.
5. Tap on your OPML file.

To import an OPML file using the Pocket Casts Android or iOS app, please follow these steps:

1. Click the Profile icon on the upper-right corner of the screen.
2. Click Settings.
3. Click Import & Export.
4. Click Import Podcasts.
5. Select the OPML file you wish to import to Pocket Casts.
6. Click Open.

If you used another app to manage your podcasts before, and you want to transfer your favorite podcasts to Pocket Casts, you’ll need to export an OPML from the old app first. This section will discuss different OPML export methods for different apps.

If you’re having trouble following the OPML export steps in this section, please reach out to the relevant app’s support team, as they would be in the best position to help you.

1. Go to https://takeout.google.com/takeout/custom/podcasts.
2. Tap Next Step.
3. In the “transfer to” box, choose Add to Drive or Send download link via email.
4. Scroll down and Create export.
5. Enter your email password if needed.
6. Once your export is ready choose Open in Drive.
7. Tap the 3 vertical dots, top left, next to the file name.
8. Tap Download.
9. Go to Files and find the zip file.
10. Go to Downloads folder.
11. Tap on the file and choose Extract.
12. Tap Done.
13. Tap 3 vertical dots next to the extracted opml file.
14. Tap Share.
15. Choose Pocket Casts.
16. Your podcasts will now show up in Pocket Casts.

2. Scroll down to Export My Shows.
3. Tap OK, I’LL SAVE IT.
4. Save to your Files.
5. Now follow the steps to import an OPML at the top of this page.

4. Select Export Feeds.

3. Select Subscriptions only – Backup.
4. Tap OK.

2. Save the file to your device.
3. Now follow the steps to import an OPML at the top of this page.

1. Click on Podcasts.
2. File > Library > Export Playlist.
3. Set the format to OPML.
4. Save.
5. Email the file to your device.
6. Download the file to your device.
7. Now follow the steps to import an OPML at the top of this page.

Alternatively:

1. Tap the Install Shortcut on your iOS device.
2. When prompted, tap the Add Shortcut button.
3. Tap on the Shortcuts tab.
4. Locate the “Apple Podcasts to Pocket Casts” shortcut in the list.
5. Tap it to start the import process.
6. Once the shortcut is done running, Pocket Casts will reopen and finish the import process.

Note: If you previously deleted the shortcuts app you will be prompted to reinstall it.
