Using Multi-Select

Multi-select is a feature that allows you to select and apply actions to episodes in bulk. It’s very useful for managing your podcast episodes.

Here are places in the app where you can use multi-select:
  • A podcast’s page
  • A filter
  • Profile > Downloads
  • Profile > Files
  • Profile > Starred
  • Profile > Listening History
  • Up Next queue
Multi-select in the Up Next queue works a bit differently. For everywhere else, you can activate multi-select by long-pressing on an episode. Long-pressing on the same episode again will bring up options to “Select all above” or “Select all below.”

Once you’re done selecting episodes, you can apply the following actions:
  • Play Next
  • Play Last
  • Download/Remove Download
  • Archive/Unarchive
  • Mark as Played/Mark as Unplayed
  • Star Episodes/Unstar Episodes

Multi-Select in the Up Next Queue

In the Up Next queue, you can click on “Select” at the upper-right corner of the screen to activate multi-select.

After selecting an episode in your queue, long-pressing on it will bring up options to “Select all above” or “Select all below.” You can also click “Select All” at the upper-right corner of the screen.

Once you’re done selecting episodes in your Up Next queue, you can apply the following actions:
  • Move to Top
  • Move to Bottom
  • Remove
  • Download
  • Mark as Played
  • Archive

Ads in Episodes

Pocket Casts does not insert any ads into episodes, whether a user is on Pocket Casts Plus or not.

Any ads you hear would be from the podcast author adding them to their podcast. There are two common methods authors use to insert ads into their episodes. One is when they include the ad by having it recorded with the rest of the podcast.

The other method is “Dynamic Ad Insertion” (DAI). A sign that DAI is being used is if the ads you’re hearing sound very local. This is because DAI serves ads based on your phone’s IP address. To be clear, however, we here at Pocket Casts do not provide your location for these. It’s something the podcast hosting providers figure out based on where your phone requests downloads from.

Sync Issues

As long as you are logged in to your Pocket Casts account, we’ll securely store certain information for you. If you’re running into sync issues, please first look at whether the information you are expecting to sync is included in Pocket Casts sync.

What Syncs

  • Podcast subscriptions
  • Listening history (display limit is 1000 on mobile apps, and 100 on web/desktop player)
  • Filters
  • Stats
  • Skip First/Skip Last settings
  • Playback position
  • Archived/Starred/Played statuses
  • Folders

What Doesn’t Sync

User settings, including:
  • Add to Up Next
  • Auto Downloads
  • Podcasts page layout
  • Notifications
  • Playback Effects

Sync Troubleshooting

After you’ve confirmed that the information you’re expecting to sync is indeed part of Pocket Casts sync:
  • Check whether you’re logged in to the same account under each app’s “Profile” screen—through the “Profile” icon in the web and desktop apps, and the “Profile” tab in the mobile apps

  • While you’re in each “Profile” screen too, see if there are any errors there
If the above looks good, the discrepancy in information across devices is likely from at least one app having been logged out at some point.

For example, any changes you’ve made to starred, archived, and played statuses while logged out will not get uploaded to our servers. That information would be device-only. To remedy this, you’d want to mark problem episodes as starred/archived/played while logged in to your account. You may find using Multi-Select particularly helpful as it would allow you to manage episodes in bulk.

Podcast Artwork

Your podcast artwork is like a friendly face that helps listeners spot your podcast easily in a sea of other podcasts. It shows listeners what your podcast is all about, and you can use it as an extension of your podcast’s brand or identity.

In general, podcast artwork that works with other platforms will also work on Pocket Casts. So, you’ll rarely need to put in extra effort to ensure your artwork works on our platform. If you do find that your artwork isn’t showing up as expected in any of our apps, the information below may help.

My podcast is showing the old/wrong artwork.

First, make sure that your RSS feed already links to your new artwork. If it is, and Pocket Casts still isn’t updating, we normally just need to give the system time to catch up.

If only some of your listeners are seeing your old/wrong artwork, they can try going to Settings > Appearance in the mobile apps and clicking “Refresh All Podcast Artwork.”

Should you continue to have issues with how your artwork appears in our apps, please email us. We’re here to help!

My episode or chapter artwork isn’t showing up.

We support per-episode and per-chapter artwork, although it is quite limited currently. Right now, we only support artwork that’s embedded into the episode files themselves. For that to work, listeners need to enable the “Use embedded podcast artwork” setting under Profile > Settings > Appearance.

Per-episode and per-chapter artwork that’s specified in feeds is not yet supported.
