Through our Chromecast integration, you can stream audio and video content from your Pocket Casts app to your television or home audio system.
Our integration works by sending your Chromecast device a URL to play. Once the URL is sent, the device can stream it, even if you aren’t in the same room.
If you go to another app or lock your phone, Pocket Casts is unable to track your playback progress. As a result, the Up Next queue does not play continuously.
While we are aware of this limitation, Google will most likely have to fix it in the Google Cast SDK they provide to developers. We have raised the issue with Google, and when an update is available, we’ll include it in our app.
In the meantime, a workaround we can suggest is for you to enable your app’s “Keep Screen Awake” setting under Profile > Settings > General.
It is not possible to use the Chromecast integration with custom files that are only locally stored on your phone. This is because Chromecast devices can only stream content available on the web.
In order to cast custom files, you would first need Pocket Casts Plus or Patron. This will then allow you to upload the files to your account’s cloud storage so they can be streamed through Chromecast.
Pocket Casts is not currently supported as a linked audio service inside Google Home (like Spotify or YouTube Music), so it will not show up in the Google Home “Music/Audio” services list. However, Pocket Casts supports Google Cast, so it can send episodes directly to any Chromecast or Google Cast–enabled speaker or TV on the same Wi‑Fi network.
When you cast from Pocket Casts to a Chromecast or other Google Cast device, only Playback Speed is supported. While casting the speed is limited to a range of approximately 0.5x to 2.0x. Playback Effects like Trim Silence and Volume Boost do not work while casting.
“Adjust Remaining Time” only affects the time shown in the Pocket Casts app on your phone. When you cast to Chromecast, Google controls what you see on the screen, so the remaining time won’t match that setting.
