If Pocket Casts says there’s a problem accessing an episode, the podcast server may be blocking access to the audio file.
This is most common with private, paid, or subscriber-only podcasts, where access depends on a valid membership, private feed, or secure episode link.
This can happen if:
- your paid subscription or membership has expired
- your private podcast feed link is no longer valid
- the podcast provider has updated or expired the secure link for the episode
- the episode is only available to current subscribers or members
- Pocket Casts is still using an older saved version of the episode link
In other words, the episode may still exist, but the server is no longer allowing access to it.
If this is a paid or private podcast, make sure your subscription is still active with the podcast provider.
For example, if the podcast comes from Patreon, Supporting Cast, Memberful, Supercast, or another membership platform, confirm that your membership is current and still includes podcast access.
Some private podcast feeds expire or are replaced over time.
If your provider gives you a private RSS feed link, check your account with them to see whether a new link is available.
If needed, remove the old private feed from Pocket Casts and add the updated one.
Refresh the podcast in Pocket Casts, then try the episode again.
This may help if the podcast provider has updated the episode links.
If only some episodes fail, the issue may be limited to older episodes or expired episode links.
The most common causes are:
- an expired or canceled paid subscription
- an expired private RSS feed
- expired secure episode URLs
- invalid private feed credentials
- subscriber-only content that requires active access
You may need to contact the podcast provider or membership platform if:
- your paid membership may have expired
- your private feed link no longer works
- you need a new or updated private RSS feed
- the same episode fails in multiple apps
They manage the subscription access and private feed on their side.
Please contact us if:
- your membership is active, but episodes still won’t play in Pocket Casts
- the podcast works elsewhere but not in Pocket Casts
- refreshing or re-adding the feed didn’t help
- only certain episodes fail and you think Pocket Casts may be using an outdated episode link
When you contact us, it helps to include:
- the podcast name
- the episode title
- whether this is a private or paid podcast
- the provider name, such as Patreon, Memberful, or Supporting Cast
- whether your subscription is still active
- whether the issue affects all episodes or only some
- whether you were trying to stream or download
- your device type and app version
