Episode Grouping is one of the ways you can organize episodes within a podcast. It is available on the Android and iOS mobile apps. Episode Grouping is not yet supported on the web and desktop apps.
Some podcasts have organized seasons with specific topics, while others have a large number of episodes without clear divisions. With Episode Grouping, you have the following options for grouping episodes:
- Downloaded – groups episodes according to download status: “Downloaded” or “Not Downloaded”
- Unplayed – groups episodes according to played status: “Unplayed” or “Played”
- Season – groups episodes according to season
- Starred – groups episodes according to starred status: “Starred” or “Not Starred”
If you don’t choose a specific grouping method, episodes will be listed from newest to oldest by default.
In the mobile apps, you can group all of your podcasts the same way according to these steps:
- Tap “Profile.”
- On the upper-right corner of the screen, tap the “Settings” icon, which looks like a gear.
- Tap “General.”
- Tap “Podcast Episode Grouping.”
- Select one of the following grouping options:
- Downloaded
- Unplayed
- Season
- Starred
- A confirmation dialog will pop up asking you to confirm whether you would like the selected grouping option to be applied to all of your followed podcasts.
- Tap “Apply to existing.”
- Your selected grouping option will be applied to all your followed podcasts.
If you’ve previously set any individual podcast grouping settings, they will be replaced by the global grouping setting. However, any podcast-specific grouping options you set afterward will be kept separate from the global setting.
In the mobile apps, you can group episodes within a single podcast according to the following steps:
- Tap “Podcasts.”
- Tap on the podcast you wish to organize.
- On the podcast’s page, tap the three-dot icon next to the search bar.
- Tap “Group Episodes.”
- Select one of the following grouping options:
- Downloaded
- Unplayed
- Season
- Starred
- Your selected grouping option will be applied to the podcast.
