General Settings

In this guide

In the Android and iOS mobile apps, you can access your general settings according to the following steps:

  1. Tap the “Profile” tab in the app.
  2. On the upper-right corner of the screen, tap the “Settings” icon, which looks like a gear.
  3. Tap “General.”
  4. You can now view and manage your app’s general settings from this screen.

These are the following defaults you can customize for the app:

  • Row action
  • Up Next swipe
  • Podcast episode grouping
  • Show archived
  • Media notification controls

These are the player settings you can set:

  • Skip forward time
  • Skip back time
  • Keep screen awake
  • Open player automatically
    • On – will open the full-screen player automatically when you start playing an episode
    • Off – you’ll only get the mini-player when you start playing an episode, and you’ll need to tap on the mini-player so that it goes to full screen
  • Intelligent Playback Resumption
    • When enabled, the app will automatically jump back in the timeline when a podcast resumed after a period of time. This improves the listening experience by providing more context when you’re ready to start playback again after an interruption.
    • The amount that the episode skips back is based on how long it has been paused for:
      • If paused for more than 5 minutes, the app will jump back 10 seconds.
      • If paused for more than 1 hour, the app will jump back 15 seconds.
      • If paused for more than 24 hours, the app will jump back 30 seconds.
  • Play Up Next episode on tap
  • Autoplay

Pocket Casts adjusts the time remaining for an episode to account for your current playback effects, such as faster playback speed and Trim silence. In some cases, external interfaces like Android Auto or Chromecast use their own playback UI and time display, which do not currently apply Pocket Casts’ adjusted remaining time calculation.
