Plus and Patron Subscriptions: Payments Troubleshooting and FAQs

In this guide

You may encounter issues with payments while renewing or signing up for Pocket Casts Plus or Pocket Casts Patron subscriptions. This support article will help you resolve those issues.

Payments Troubleshooting

If you’re having trouble paying for your Pocket Casts subscription, first take note of the platform you’re paying from. It will be one of these three: Google Play Store, Apple App Store, or the Pocket Casts website. Then, follow our suggestions for that specific payment platform.

Should you need more assistance with your Pocket Casts subscription, please contact us and include the platform you subscribed from, along with as many details as possible about the issue.

Google Play Store

If you can’t purchase or renew a subscription through the Google Play Store, please follow these steps:

  1. Verify that you are using one of the accepted payment methods on Google Play.
  2. Refer to the Google Play Store’s guide here: Fix payment issues like declined transactions.

Apple App Store

If you can’t get or renew Pocket Casts Plus or Patron subscriptions through the Apple App Store, you can follow these steps:

  1. Check that you are paying with one of the payment methods that you can use with your Apple ID.
  2. Refer to Apple’s guide here: If your payment method is declined in the App Store or iTunes Store.

Pocket Casts Website

If you’re running into issues paying for Plus or Patron through our website, we suggest the following next steps:

  1. Confirm that you are using one of the following payment methods:
    • Card
    • PayPal
    • Google Pay – only shows up in Chrome and if you have a card added to your Google Wallet on Chrome
    • Apple Pay
  2. Retry the transaction – When a decline occurs, you should see a message at checkout that explains why the transaction couldn’t be completed. You can retry the purchase at this point.
  3. Contact your bank – Payment declines are usually the result of a decision by your bank. Their reasons often include your account not having enough funds, the bank flagging the transaction as potentially fraudulent, or a discrepancy with the card verification value (CVV) you entered. If you’ve double-checked your card details and everything looks correct, your bank can provide you with more information on why the decline happened and what can be done to ensure your future payments go smoothly.

FAQs

Can I use a certain payment method to subscribe to Pocket Casts Plus or Patron?

Each subscription platform we use for Pocket Casts Plus and Patron subscriptions accept different ways to pay. Please refer to the payment methods each platform supports in their sections in this guide: Google Play Store, Apple App Store, and the Pocket Casts website.

I have an active subscription. Why is the app asking me to resubscribe?

When you switch to a new phone or use Pocket Casts on a different device, you might encounter an issue where you’re not seeing your Pocket Casts Plus and Patron status on the new device, as if you need to resubscribe.

Your subscription is tied to the Pocket Casts account (the email address) you used when you subscribed. The most common cause of this is being signed in to a different account on the new device – for example, a brand-new account created during setup – rather than the one your subscription is on.

To fix it, make sure you’re signed in to the correct Pocket Casts account:

  1. Open Pocket Casts and go to your Profile (the person icon). Your account email address is shown at the top of the Profile screen.
  2. Check whether that email matches the one you used when you first subscribed. If it doesn’t, open your Account settings from the Profile screen, sign out, and sign back in using the correct email address.

Once you’re signed in to the account that holds your subscription, your Plus or Patron status will appear automatically – there’s no separate restore step to complete. If you’re not sure which email your subscription is on, or your status still doesn’t appear after signing in to the correct account, please contact us and include the email addresses you may have used and whether you subscribed through the Google Play Store, Apple App Store, or the Pocket Casts website.
